Waste management in South Africa driven by a strong network

In South Africa, Exchange works with the municipalities of Witzenberg and Bergrivier on economic opportunities in the waste management sector. These municipalities focus on protecting the environment and creating job opportunities at the same time. A sustainable story in which the Flemish municipalities of Essen and Heist-op-den-Berg (connected to Witzenberg and Bergrivier by a city link) are gladly involved.

All stakeholders met on January 8 2020. A broad and diverse network consisting of the Exchange program manager, Exchange growth program coaches, Exchange experts and representatives of the municipalities of Essen and Heist-op-den-Berg jointly evaluated the recent activities in South Africa and looked ahead to the future plans. The municipality of Bornem was also present at the meeting. Bornem wishes to shape its city link with the South African municipality of Nquthu in the same innovative way. A possible new growth programme in the pipeline!

Witzenberg Municipality in South Africa focuses on waste management, waste reduction, composting and recycling.
